DIVINE HAND ENSEMBLE
The Divine Hand Ensemble is a unique musical group that defies traditional categorization, led by concert thereminist Mano Divina Giannone. This ensemble was renowned for its electrifying performances that blended classical music with an ethereal, otherworldly sound, primarily produced by the theremin. The theremin, played by Mano Divina, is an electronic musical instrument controlled without physical contact by the thereminist. It is known for its haunting, voice-like sound, which Mano Divina skillfully bent with his hands to release angelic voices from his fingertips.
The group's composition included not just the theremin but also an exquisite array of instruments, including a string quartet, two harps, a vibraphone, and an accordion. This rich musical arrangement provided a backdrop that enhanced the theremin's ethereal sounds, creating a unique auditory experience for the audience.
The Divine Hand Ensemble entertained international audiences and was appreciated by figures such as film directors M. Night Shyamalan and David Lynch, Pope Francis, the President of the UN, and the Royal Family of Serbia. Their performances were more than just concerts; they were immersive experiences that blended music, magic, and entertainment into memorable spectacles.
Aria 51
The album Aria 51 showcased an eclectic collection of covers from an array of iconic artists, including The Specials, Frank Zappa, Andrew Lloyd Weber, David Bowie, and others. This album exemplified the unparalleled versatility and broad musical repertoire of The Divine Hand Ensemble. Not many bands possessed the unique capability to transition seamlessly from performing at a 16th-century funerary concert in a cemetery to opening for Pope Francis' world address, and then to backing the Lady in the Radiator from David Lynch's Eraserhead — all within the span of a single week. The Divine Hand Ensemble was truly exceptional, defying conventional boundaries with their extraordinary performances.
