Prairie Prince
Here's a two-paragraph summary in the first person, as if I were Prairie Prince:
I was born in 1950 in North Carolina, but I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. My parents were both huge music lovers, and my sisters introduced me to a wide variety of music, from swing to early rock and roll. This passion for music, combined with my mother's encouragement of my artistic side, shaped my entire life. I started playing drums in my youth and eventually formed a band that became The Tubes. To pursue my art, I moved to San Francisco on a scholarship, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in painting and began a long and fruitful artistic partnership with my friend Michael Cotten.
Over the years, while continuing to record and tour with The Tubes, I've had the incredible opportunity to work with some of my heroes. I've played drums on albums for artists like Chris Isaak, Brian Eno, and David Byrne, and toured with Todd Rundgren. Beyond music, my artistic partner Michael Cotten and I, known as Cotten/Prince, created stage designs and large-scale murals, including the famous "Flying Records" mural for the A&M Records building. We also worked on the production for major events like the 1996 Olympic Games Closing Ceremonies and tours for artists like Michael Jackson. Today, I still perform with The Tubes and Todd Rundgren, and I continue to work on my visual art, including custom painting and murals.
