Wall of Voodoo originated from a film score company called Acme Soundtracks, founded by Stan Ridgway. The band's name was inspired by a friend's comment comparing their sound to a "wall of voodoo." Their music combined elements of new wave, punk, and cinematic influences. After Ridgway's departure in 1983, Andy Prieboy took over as lead vocalist until the band's dissolution in 1988.
