Ravens Moreland is an original post-punk, deathrock, and industrial band based in Los Angeles, California. Created in 1998 by Bruce Moreland, a former Wall of Voodoo founding member, was part of Nervous Gender, The Skulls, The Weirdos, and Concrete Blonde, and also performed live on stage with Stiv Bators and Brian James. As an MC for the original LA punk club The Masque, he entertained and introduced bands such as The Screamers, The Dickies, The Avengers, The Nuns, and The Dead Kennedys.

Bruce was always a step ahead of the game, moving from punk to post-punk before it was a genre, and then to deathrock and industrial music in its nascent stages. He was primarily a bass player and keyboardist in the early stages of his career; however, an untimely and hilarious incident in 1999 changed his trajectory forever.

Their latest release “Wicked Dominion” is set for release in June 2026 and yields three singles:

“Hell’s Rails” – Ravenous beats drive this hellbound train, created in the hours after midnight. This mostly electronic track was designed to move bodies on the dance floor.

“Destroyed By Fire” – This darkly sinful tryst of sexual exploration is set in the chaos of driving bass and drums. The song speaks of the heights and valleys of sexual experimentation with an extra partner. It’s hard driving beats and bass, along with pulsing sequencers, lay the tracks for the sexually charged song to ride into your curiosities.

“Pain Division” – This sinister dance hammer, written about the suffering of the working class at the hands of those who seek to control us, proved a driving groove. Once again Bruce and Christine blend a symphonic siren of good and evil, with Bruce’s raspy, hardened vocals and Christine’s beautiful harmonic warnings. The song speaks to the disparity in have’s and have nots, the portraying of immigrants as demons, and the role of money in the shaping of politics and society.

In the early days of social media, members of the first iteration of Ravens Moreland came across each other’s Myspace pages. Unbeknownst to Bruce, one member was a Christian, and the other was a Satanist; both refused to work with one another, this after booking time to record their first album, Lock Up Your Mothers, with grammy award winning producer David Bianco. Bruce had to quickly pivot to vocalist and guitarist, as well as rewriting several songs over the course of five weeks. He began training his voice and sharpening his guitar skills, while inviting some new musicians to complement the album.

Since then, Ravens Moreland has released several albums and singles, mostly on Bruce’s own Ravens Records. The band has performed with Concrete Blonds, KMFDM, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, 45 Grave, Eva O, and many others.

The current and longest lineup features Christine Lynise of Guilty Strangers on vocals, 2nd guitar, and bass. creating a dynamic, male/female vocal duo. On drums is Linda LeSabre, formerly of Death Ride 69 and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, and Liz Rhodes on keyboards. As for the inspiration for the music and Moreland’s take on “alternative” music these days and where Ravens Moreland fits in that landscape, he says, “Alternative music today has swelled beyond the crypt of exclusivity. It’s broad, bloated, and bland.

Ravens Moreland is the alternative to alternative; it’s not meant for the top of the search bar results. It’s tucked away for lovers on the late-night musical tryst.” The winding and sometimes jagged edges of Bruce’s life have made their way into the songs he has penned as Ravens Moreland, exploring themes of sexuality, loss, life on the streets, addiction, and creating a refuge for the misfits.
