Night Crickets

Night Crickets is a unique collaborative project that brings together three legendary figures from the alternative rock scene. The band features David J (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets), Victor DeLorenzo (Violent Femmes), and multi-instrumentalist/composer Darwin Meiners. Formed in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Night Crickets merges the avant-garde, post-punk, and alternative rock genres to create a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh.

Their music reflects the eclectic influences of each member, from David J’s goth and post-punk roots with Bauhaus, to DeLorenzo’s contributions to the punk-folk sensibility of Violent Femmes, to Meiners’ diverse sonic palette that blends elements of experimental and indie rock. Together, they weave intricate narratives and sonic textures that capture a sense of introspection, anxiety, and beauty — themes that resonate particularly in a post-pandemic world.

Night Crickets’ debut album, A Free Society (released in 2022), received critical acclaim for its haunting melodies, introspective lyrics, and innovative production. Their music strikes a balance between melancholy and optimism, with themes of freedom, survival, and the human condition running through the album’s tracks. The collaboration between these three seasoned musicians has created a project that feels timeless yet forward-thinking, appealing to long-time fans of their previous work as well as new listeners drawn to their unique sound.

As they continue to create and evolve, Night Crickets are solidifying their place in the modern alternative music scene, offering fans an opportunity to experience the experimental edge that defined much of the 80s and 90s underground rock movement, reimagined for today.
